07/19/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Both the Rockies and Marlins have struggled on offense in the second half. Given Tuesday's pitching matchup, neither team is likely to break out at the plate on Monday night.
National League All-Star starter Ubaldo Jimenez, who seeks a career-high 16th victory tonight, resumes his season for Colorado in the opener of a four-game series versus Anibal Sanchez and the Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium.
The Rockies and Marlins are both coming off 1-0 victories on Sunday and neither team has scored more than two runs in a game since the All-Star break.
Florida took two of three from Washington despite scoring just three runs in the series, kicking off a 10-game homestand. Emilio Bonifacio doubled in the fifth inning and scored the game's lone run when Gaby Sanchez hit a two-base hit of his own.
That was enough to give the Marlins their fourth win in six games and hand Alex Sanabia his first major league victory. The 21-year-old rookie hurled 5 1/3 scoreless innings, working around four hits and two walks while striking out five. Leo Nunez recorded his 22nd save of the year to cap the victory.
"It's exciting," Sanabia said about winning his first big league game. "Today was real special; got a win and the team a win. It worked out perfectly."
Colorado, meanwhile, posted just four runs over the weekend versus Cincinnati and avoided a three-game sweep with Sunday's triumph. Chris Iannetta hit a solo homer in the sixth inning to back seven scoreless innings from Aaron Cook, who gave up six hits en route to winning his first road start of the season.
"It was definitely an important game. For us, we get out of here with at least one win and go to Florida and hope we can get on a roll from here," said Cook, who retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced.
Huston Street notched his sixth save of the season to help the Rockies snap a three-game slide and remain four games back of the first-place Padres in the NL West. Colorado's set in Ohio kicked of an 11-game road trip.
The Rockies should feel great about their chances tonight with Jimenez set to take the mound. The right-hander won his final start before the break, besting the Cardinals on July 8 with eight innings of one-run, three-hit ball to carry a 15-1 record and 2.20 earned run average into the hiatus. It was an important victory for Jimenez, who had allowed 17 runs over his previous three outings. Still, he leads the majors in victories and is the first NL pitcher to notch 15 wins before the All-Star break since Greg Maddux in 1988.
The 26-year-old, who hasn't lost since May 9, then started last Tuesday's All- Star Game in Anaheim and hurled two scoreless innings, working around two hits and a walk while throwing 15 of his 25 pitches for strikes.
"I was trying to slow down, trying to relax," Jimenez told MLB.com. "It was a challenge. I like to throw hard, especially in a game like this, with so many people in the stands, but I was able to control myself."
Jimenez is 9-1 with a 1.23 ERA in 10 road starts this season and 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA in two career starts versus the Marlins. He has given up just two earned runs in 10 innings against them, striking out 15.
Sanchez, meanwhile, will make his career-high 18th start of the season tonight, surpassing the 17 he made as a rookie in 2006 during a solid 10-3 campaign. He is 7-6 with a 3.66 ERA this year, but lost his final two starts before the break while allowing nine earned runs over 10 innings.
The 26-year-old righty lasted just four innings versus the Diamondbacks on July 8, getting charged with six runs (five earned) on nine hits.
Sanchez has been tough at home, where he is 3-2 with a solid 2.50 ERA in eight starts. He has also beaten the Rockies in his only other start against them, holding the club to two runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings of a 12-2 triumph on July 31, 2008.
The Rockies took two of three from the Marlins at home from April 24-25.

Huskers' Lucky hospitalized for undisclosed reason
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons after Lincoln police responded to a call at his residence.
The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.
MySportsbook.com has the Cornhuskers listed at +2500 to win the BCS National Championship odds.
A nursing supervisor at the hospital said all questions about Lucky were being referred to the athletic department. The athletic department said there would be no further comment from the department or Lucky's family.
A Lincoln Police spokesman said officers responded to a call at Lucky's residence 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The spokesman said he didn't know Lucky's condition at the time he was taken to the hospital.
Lucky, from North Hollywood, Calif., started six games last season as a sophomore and was the team's second-leading rusher, with 728 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 383 yards. He averaged 19.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.

American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6
The online gambling websites are in the process of deciphering each American Idol contestant and his or her chances of winning Season 6 to come up with the early American Idol betting lines.
Tim Dalton of MySportsbook.com has been locked away in a soundproof room coming up with all the latest tallies, we are told. "American Idol has become one of the most significant betting events of the year," claims Jack Black of MySportsbook.com. "Last year, millions were bet during the season across the globe, not just in America. It's tough early on since we really do not have a glimpse as to how well each of these individuals will perform solo on a week-to-week basis. It's like Week 1 of the NFL. Pre-season means nada!
We do know the 24 finalists however.
Sanjaya Malakar is the young man whose sister failed to make it into the Top 24. He's very low key but - unless he totally flubs - will probably win over the young girlie vote for a few weeks anyway. He's too young to go all the way, according to Payton O'Brien.
Brandon Rogers - Who?
Phil Stacy is the military guy who missed his daughter's birth because of the Memphis audition. He should go a good distance.
Chris Sligh - He's got the humor and in many ways he's the Anti-American Idol much like last year's winner Taylor Hicks was. And this is why he'll probably get pretty far in this competition. He's chubby, white with a big curly afro....but more importantly, a great voice! People love "real", not "real cute" to go all the way.
"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks. He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes. But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.
A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”
Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes.
"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate. "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past. He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far. Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."
Sundance Head - He's not perfect, but he's got the personality that will take him through a few weeks, plus he's got the lineage (son of Roy Head - whose 1965 single, "Treat Her Right," hit No. 5 in the charts)
And the others:
Rudy Cardinas
AJ Tabaldo - the 5th time is the charm
Nicolas Pedro
Chris Richardson
Jared Cotter
The girls
"Melinda Doolittle has one of the best voices," says MySportsbook.com Reporter and an acclaimed dancer in her own right, Destiney Lewis. "It is great to see a back up singer step out like she has. The girl needs to gain more confidence but that can also be a positive. I think she will go far."
Alena Alexander - Those tears (she never seems to stop bawling) should get her far.
"Single mom Lakisha Jones I suspect will be a pretty big favorite entering Week 1 of the competition," says Destiny Williams. Jones is an excellent singer and down to earth. "She'll have a wide appeal," echoed O'Brien.
Nicole Trellis - Seems to exert confidence.
Amy Krebs - a powerful singer.
Antonella Barba
Gina Glocksen
Hailey Scanardo
Jordan Sparks
